Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install ecotube HOME on the surface?
It is possible to lay the ecotube HOME on the surface, but it is recommended to cover it with some soil or wood chips. In general, the ecotube HOME as a root irrigation system in the ground offers the most positive effects, such as water savings and improved plant growth. Laying it in the ground protects the hose and supports your plants at the same time.
Can I use ecotube HOME directly with my domestic water connection?
The optimum operating pressure for ecotube HOME is 0.69 bar. Normally, the water pressure at the domestic water connection is about 3-4 bar, which is too much to operate ecotube properly. The water release becomes irregular and it can lead to splashes. It is therefore imperative to use the pressure reducer provided. The maximum pressure is 1.5 bar. The longer the tube, the more important it becomes to apply correct pressure.
Do the roots grow into the ecotube HOME and block it?
Ecotube HOME is a microporous soaker hose, with pores so small, that no root can penetrate the surface. Usually, the roots grow around the tube to absorb the water that they need.
Can I use water from my own well?
We do not recommend using water from a well. If you are using water that may not be clean, it is very important to perform a water analysis first and use a filter if necessary. If the iron content is increased, it is advisable not to use the water.
Can I use a pump?
When using a pump, make sure that you do not use a dirty water pump that sits on the ground, as this will stir up all the dirt and pump it into the ecotube HOME. Ideally, a pump with an expansion tank is used. To prevent frequent switching times, at least 100 m of ecotube should be laid. If this is not enough, an additional consumer (e.g. lawn sprinkler) can be connected. Another alternative is to use a bypass, where water is fed back into the cistern/well. This way there is no backflow and the pump does not switch off.
I can't see the water! How do I know that ecotube HOME works correctly?
Ecotube HOME is buried underground and the surface remains dry, which does not allow visual control of moisture. We therefore recommend the installation of a flow meter in front of the system. If you know the flow rate per hour and the length of the eye tube, you can easily calculate whether it is within the standard. Flow rate per hour (liters in 5 min x 12) / ecotube length (m) = L/h/m. In this way, it can be checked whether ecotube is functioning properly. Another option is to leave out a little bit of ecotube HOME at the end of the line which can be opened to release water.
What is the maximum length for the ecotube HOME?
Ecotube HOME works homogeneously over a distance of 100 m. For this, the 100 m should be installed straight and horizontally. If too many turns or gradients are used, the uniform release could be reduced. It is forbidden to join several 100 m rolls, as the water may not reach the end.
Can I used liquid fertilizers with ecotube HOME?
It is possible to use liquid fertilizers (non crystallising) with ecotube HOME. A filter (120 Mesh) should be installed to avoid any issues.
What happens if I accidentally puncture a hole in the ecotube HOME?
You can cut the ecotube HOME to the left and right of the hole and bridge the gap with a simple straight connector.
How long do I have to irrigate every day?
There is no general answer to this question. It depends on the plants, the soil and the climatic conditions.
How deep do I have to burry the ecotube HOME?
The minimum depth is 10 cm. However, the actual depth varies from plant to plant. For larger trees, it is advisable to install the ecotube in a circle at a depth of about 40 cm. On average, a depth of 10-30 cm is sufficient for most garden plants. Inside the installation manual you will find detailed depth.
Do I have to do any maintenance work after the winter?
It is recommended to flush the supply line (garden hose) before it is reconnected to ecotube for the first time so that no foreign substances are introduced.
