Many garden flowers, fruits, herbs and especially vegetables require daily watering. Especially if you wait in vain for precipitation. Our summers have been far too dry for years, so we regularly have to use the garden hose or watering can. Watering should never be done during the day, otherwise too much water will evaporate unused due to the sun and cannot reach the roots. This means that watering is reduced to the morning or evening hours. But not everyone has the opportunity during these time windows, especially if you work. The solution: underground irrigation. This means you can use soaker hoses to keep your garden in good condition without any work.

Why soaker hoses are more efficient than drip hoses

Drip hoses have long been the most widely used irrigation technology because they are inexpensive to produce and easy to use. Every 30-60 cm you have a dripper from which water comes out. The drip hose is usually laid on the surface and watered from above. Drip hoses have the disadvantage that a lot of water evaporates through surface irrigation and does not reach the roots. Furthermore, the irrigation is not homogeneous over the entire distance due to the offset drippers. The hoses are exposed to environmental influences such as sunlight and animals. With ecotube we wanted to avoid exactly these problems and produce a soaker hose that releases water evenly over the entire length of 100 m and is installed underground, which means less water is required. In tests with a renowned university, 35% water was saved and 9% more biomass was produced when growing lettuce compared to the drip hose.
